Nicolle Barmettler and Jamie Fitzpatrick named to 2017-18 Academic All-District team

Seniors, Nicolle Barmettler of women's golf and Jamie Fitzpatrick of women's swimming, have been named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team as selected by CoSIDA. Barmettler and Fitzpatrick were two of 84 Division II student-athletes representing eight districts that were selected from 14 different women's NCAA championship sports.

Starting with Barmettler, the Omaha, Neb. native just finished up arguably the most decorated career in the history of Truman State University women's golf. This past season alone, Barmettler placed in a tie for sixth or better in all but one of her 10 events and the exception was the biggest stage of her career at the NCAA East Super Regional. There, she tied for 16th out of 66 golfers for her second time competing in the event in three years.

Putting the right-hander's career into perspective, her decorated history includes three tournament titles, 19 finishes in the top five, 35 placings in the top 20, 48 rounds under 80, and a career stroke average of 78.5 with 6,283 strokes through 80 rounds. In her four years at Truman, Barmettler competed in a total of 38 events and was among the top-five finishers for half of them.

As for Fitzpatrick, who was just awarded one of the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, her career was impressive in its own right. Fitzpatrick competed in the NCAA Championships for three of her four seasons as a Bulldog. The St. Louis native made the trip for relays as a junior, but competed in both individual events and relays as a sophomore and senior.

In those three trips to the sport's mountain top, Fitzpatrick garnered All-American honors seven different times including five as a relay leg and two as an honorable-mention individual. In her most recent trip, she competed in the 50 free (13th place), 100 free (23rd), 200 free (11th), 200 medley relay (21st), 200 free relay (17th), and 800 free relay (13th).
