Truman State women's basketball falls to Augustana
Katie Jaseckas notched her first double-double in her second collegiate game but Augustana led wire-to-wire in a 72-57 non-conference victory over the Truman Women's Basketball team on Monday night.
Jaseckas scored 12 points with half coming from the free throw line and pulled down 13 rebounds in 24 minutes of work. She was the only Bulldog player of the 10 that scored to finish in double-figures.
The Bulldogs (1-1) made all but two of their 18 free throw attempts but were a bit frosty from outside with five makes out of 27 three-pointers(18.5%).
Augustana (1-0) scored the first eight points of the contest and never trailed. The Bulldogs scored the next five but a three-pointer by Naomi Rust after a blocked shot on the defensive end pushed the lead back to six. Rachel Steinhoff scored on Truman's next possession to cut it back to four but a 9-2 run over the next two minutes gave the Vikings their first double-digit lead.
Truman trailed by 10 at the break then went cold again from the field and mustered six points in the third quarter to fall behind 52-37.
The Bulldogs had their most productive offensive quarter in the fourth with 20 points but Augustana matched them point-for-point on the scoreboard.
Augustana's Shelby Selland notched a double-double for the hosts with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Logan O'Farrell added 14 points.
Truman will return to Pershing Arena on Saturday afternoon with a date with former MIAA mate Missouri Southern at 1 p.m.
